The Adoring Fan: The Most Annoying Video Game Character Ever!

Meet the “Adoring Fan“, an annoying character from the popular 2007 Video Game of the Year winner, Oblivion: Elder Scrolls IV by Bethesda Softworks.

The Adoring Fan is an annoying little wood-elf with a blonde “fauxhawk” and a whiny, effeminate voice who walks around with a smug look on his face¹. His purpose is to “help” your character throughout the game, but instead he turns out to be an extreme nuisance; he actually, more often than not, abandons you by running away like a little bitch as enemies approach.

Perhaps that sh*t eating grin he has plastered on his face isn’t proof enough for you? See for yourself on YouTube; gamers enjoy picking on him. Just do a search for ‘oblivion adoring fan’ and you will see numerous videos depicting him in various elaborate, well-planned death scenarios. We will show you the best one at the end of this post.

The Adoring Fan also spits out ridiculous gibberish throughout the game. Here are some annoying quotes straight from the Adoring Fan himself:

1. By Azura! By Azura! By Azura! It’s the Grand Champion! I can’t believe it’s you! Standing here, next to me!
2. Yes, oh great and mighty Grand Champion? Is there something you need? Can I carry your weapon? Shine your boots? Backrub, perhaps?

4. Aw, gee! You sure? Okay, well, I’ll be hanging around the Arena grounds if you need someone to worship the ground you walk on. Bye!

And, if you only need to know one more thing about the Adoring Fan character, it’s the fact that he absolutely ADORES the “Grand Champion²” character in the video game. He offers to shine the Grand Champion’s boots, carry his weapons, and give him a quote-unquote backrub. He is what we at OTD call a “Grand Champion Nut-Hugger”.

During the game, he has been known to say the following “groupie-like” phrase (more “stalker-like” if you ask me):

Golly, you’re the best! I’m going to follow you and watch you and worship the ground you walk on!
