Faux Pho: The closest thing to Vietnamese Phở noodle soup that we can cook.

Our favorite soup as of late is Vietnamese Phở.

Pho is Vietnamese noodle soup with a strong meaty broth that’s perfect the day after a hard night of partying.

Vietnamese people pronounce it “Fuh” … but we blatantly disregard their version. We proudly pronounce it “Foe“. Fo-show!

Because we’re not Vietnamese, AND we don’t cook well, AND we’re very impatient, AND we know that Pho is impossible for the layperson to prepare … we have developed what we think is the NEXT BEST THING to Pho. We call it Fake Pho, Faux Pho or simply, “Pho” (the quotes are imperative here).

This ridiculously cheap Pho immitation recipe, some may call it “the poor man’s pho”, is easy to cook and tastes great. It won’t impress your Vietnamese friends, but it will make them feel sorry for you! And making them feel sorry for you is half the battle.

Our New Year’s Eve ‘Pho’ Experience:

After driving home drunk¹ from a New Year’s Eve party not too long ago in SF, we knew we would be so hungover that we wouldn’t be able to wake up to get Pho from our favorite Pho restaurant. So we made the next best thing - ‘Fake Pho’. We even decided to do shots of beer and Pedialyte while eating. See a photo of this early-morning dining experience here.

Ingredients to Make “Pho” (1-serving): 1 package of BEEF Flavor Top Ramen 1 can of Vienna Sausage Directions to Cook “Pho”: Boil a pot of water Add vienna sausages to boiling water Add Top Ramen noodles Let boil for 3 minutes, stirring occassionally Strain most of the water out; leave enough water for some broth Add Top Ramen flavored powder and stir (Add additional water if necessary)
